My Story

David Moore

18 years ago, my journey began working in the golf industry in Australia. My first nine years I was lucky to be guided and mentored by David Breen, a past Director PGA Australia, and past Chairman PGA Australia WA Division. I went out of my way to learn from him as much as I could. I had a keenness for club fitting and golf club construction early on, wanting to know how to perform every golf club repair there was possible. David was more than happy to teach me making sure I learnt the art as he did, and what I like to call the ‘correct’ way.

I believe the art of golf club repair is an underrated skill that is slowly disappearing from the industry. Through my desire to want to learn and improve, my skills quickly grew to where I was performing 100+ repairs and dozens of club fittings a week. One thing I noticed very early on was how few options there were for the putter during a full bag fitting. Golfers would arrive mostly just wanting to test woods and irons but when you looked at the number of options available for them to test compared to the putters, you could see why. Being able to test different heads, shafts, lengths, lies, and analyse data was a lot more appealing to the golfer than just testing a few different putters off the shelf, all standard length, loft and lie. Still, I would always do my best to fit each putter the best I could with the tools I had.

With my knowledge in club fitting and club building growing each year I started to understand that I really needed to learn more about the golf swing and more importantly the human body. When I began coaching as a PGA Trainee Professional, I noticed early on I could improve the students scorecards faster working on their putting stroke and fitting or building a more suitable putter that will help them improve. I was a lot better at coaching putting than I thought. I worked alongside over 20 PGA professionals, European Tour winners, Australasian Tour winners, learning from them all, and whenever possible  watching them coach and listening to their individual teaching styles. Still, I found myself more and more consumed with coaching putting, spending more of my time and energy researching and learning new techniques and teaching methods to improve my putting coaching. I completed Capto Putting Analysis Certifications to add to my Trackman certifications, and after using GC2/quad and Trackman for years the study of the Capto putting system took everything to another level and really took my coaching to the next level. It was then I chose to move my focus to only coaching putting, learning all the physics behind it, and I continue to learn and improve every day.

Today at Putt Lab, I pride myself in providing a professional and consistent service to my students. I offer a putting analysis and fitting experience that I believe is and has been missing in the industry. My current fitting service means the golfers can now test upwards of 50 different head shapes and hosel designs and with the ability to test any head at lengths from 30″ to 40″ and with an array of different grip styles and sizes. The data captured during the fitting process will help identify which putter design is best suited, and what specs the putter needs to be built to.
